– When the Past Returns –

"Lucy, what are you doing here?"
"I, uh, I've been thinking all these years, Ricky, about how poorly I treated you. I never should have left you. I was too mean to you. Look at you, you're successful because you fish. You see how wrong I was?" Lucy looked up at Ricky with remorse in her eyes.
Ricky, though, returned her gaze with flat, uninterested eyes. As CEO and Chairman of the Board, Ricky had learned many hard lessons since that fateful day. One of them was being able to smell bullshit and sincerity. Ricky's nose was wrinkling at the bullshit he smelled.
"Hmm, so you still take me for a dolt, huh? Look, Lucy, I longed for you for quite some time. I even wrote you at your sisters. But, you never came back to me. The only thing I ever got you from you was divorce papers. So, do us both a favor and take your sorrowful I-was-wrong-and-bad act to someone else. I don't buy it, the divorce is done. You refused anything from me, and it's been over ten years. So, don't think you'll get anything from me, or my wife." And, with that, Ricky started toward his waiting Rolls Royce, driver with fishy eyes standing next to the open door.
"Oh, you're married, huh?" Lucy said, surprised. "Well, I'm sorry to bother you. I guess I should have known better." And, with that, she walked somberly away, believing in her heart that she had made a huge mistake all those years ago.
"Wait, Ricky, wait!" called Ethel from their bedroom balcony. "I'll come down."
Soon, Ethel had emerged from their palatial estate and was hugging Ricky.
"Honey, what's this for?" Ricky asked, smiling.
"It's because you turned her away. You really do love me, and more importantly, yourself, where you're at, who've you become. Now, I can share all my father's secrets with you. Come with me, the fishing can be done by another from now on."
And, having said that, Ethel led Ricky down into Fred's underground laboratory. There, he held scientific marvels he never thought possible.
"This, Ricky, all of this is now ours. Both you and me. The work, the discoveries, the government and Google contracts. We'll be amazingly wealthy. And, maybe we can find a cure for my father."
"What about you? Don't you want to rid yourself of the gills and webbed feet?"
"Oh, no, silly, I like those."
And, with that, Ethel and Ricky hugged each other, grinning from ear to ear with joy.
Together they worked, always coming up with new discoveries in genetics, bio-engineering, computers and TV dinners. One of the best discoveries they made was the key to super long life. And, so with that discovery, they remained young, happy, in-love and wealthy for an amazingly long time.
